I have flown the Parrot and it is easy to fly...the video results are less than impressive however and you are restricted to the onboard video capture as the GoPro is too heavy to mount

Cool. Always good to get first hand experiences. Was that the version 1 or 2 of the drone that you flew?

Re: RC helicopter aerial videography for autocross?

It was the 1 and I have seen modded Parrot 2's fly with GoPro's but the flight times are short and the video choppy. Joe's rig is much better equipped to handle the extra weight though i imaging the single rotor is a bitch to fly!

I'd also imagine Joe's version is faster and has longer range, both which cost a lot more money.

For the price of a real T-REX 450 with 2.4 Gig TX RX RTF, you can buy 5 of these and learn on it.

Cheaper, Faster, comes with everything including Gyro, radio.. All you need are 8 AA batteries for the TX and a LiPo charger.

Re: RC helicopter aerial videography for autocross?

We mounted a Camera onto the Helicopter yesterday, Gary Wood had one that we could mount using zip ties under the helicopter. The weight provided a slight challenge but overall, it worked. Looks like we'll be practicing with that weight under the Heli.

All in all, it's possible to have some Aerial video of activities.. Cool!!

Re: RC helicopter aerial videography for autocross?

We did a couple of test flights.. Both are on this video.

We zip tied the camera to the front of the heli on the first vid, but it was too nose heavy and hard to control.

On the 2nd vid, we took off the training gear to make room between the skids and we mounted a pencil camera underneath.

Result: Much more stable flight, less back trim on the main rotors, and other than feeling a bit heavier, the heli flew fine. The extended landing gear is due to arrive this week so we can test it at Hada event on the 12th.

Fingers crossed.

Here's the vid:

I think a little rubber mounting would go a long way to get rid of some jelly vision.
