Re: Events 5 & 6 - Results posted - TLMC - Barrie Molson Centre

People , maybe I am wrong , but if we take for example 2003 Subaru WRX it has in stock 227Hp, turbo engine, AWD, curb weight 1400 kg , and my Volvo after modification has about 250Hp, turbo engine, AWD, curb weight 1620 kg , but subaru has factor 0.849 and my Volvo 0.871.

Me...it looks very strange , but maybe I'm wrong....

It sounds like your car isn't well prepped for your class. My guess is that you are classed the way you are because your chip effects boost.

With the right mods, the Volvo S60R can fit into G Stock (GS): 0.816
You might want to look at the ST classes (STU?). However, if your chip effects your boost mapping then you won't be eligible for either of these two options.

you're not looking at it right

the WRX is in a higher base class than you DS vs GS

also we have to take into consideration what class you're in right now.. it looks like its SSP

the cars that compete in that class are Z06 corvette's and Lotus Elise's

so you probably need another 3-400hp to properly be fitted in your class...

the rules assume that if you mod your car, you're going to do it to the best possible level. they dont care if your chip made 1 more whp, or 500... they assume it's always 500.

also this class assume's your going to be running the best possible tires... you're most likely on some good summer or all season tires... you need to be running 300+ Hoosiers.

when you put things into perspective, it makes more sense.

I'm little bit new in the whole autoslalom industry in Canada and now I have more understandable information. I understand that I can't change the rules for car classification , but in my opinion they're wrong.

Strong Man,

My post is going to be very blunt...to the point. Please don't take it as being mean.

So, first of all, it looks like you should have been in ESP based on the quotes below.

If so, your PAX number would have been .849...same as the Subaru you are talking about. How you got in SSP, it doesn't matter...you should have caught it at the event and it could have been changed.

Now, second and most importantly...you are approaching this all wrong. You finished dead last on Saturday...there's nothing that PAX would have done to help you. You need experience...IGNORE your finishing position...you need to come out and practice! Don't look at PAX and finishing position until you are at a skill level where you are actually competing at/near the top.

This is my recommended approach for n00bs:
- Come out to our club events as often as you can
- At the end of your first event, make note of the names just in front of you
- At the end of the next event, see how you finished compared to these same people, and again, make note of the names just in front of you
- Keep coming back...keep trying to beat the guys that finished just in front of you the last time
- Ask for help! This is the biggest one. Ask to go for rides, and ask people to ride with you.

For a good time call TLMC! Thanks gang.

I really enjoyed the course Sunday and it was great to see all the petrol-heads I've missed not being at any events this year.

Hopefully the Talon will be out again in September (no Paul, not at Lincoln)

I love Cheese Whiz

Not quite sure how to take the anti-social misfit comment though...

I shouldn't take offence to this stuff if I were you, Steven!

First of all maybe I didn't explain myself before : I don't try to find the guilty. I got a lot fun on Saturday and it was the more important for me than time/points etc and once again THANK A LOT FOR EVERYONE.

In the second I am not going to do some an investigation , I've just tried to understand the rules, cars classification etc and how the different things work together.

I totally agree with you. I didn't train for long time (more 1.5 years)

Actually...that's one of the very LAST things that I suggest.

Tires just hide your mistakes. Will you be faster? Yes. Will you be a better driver? No.

I completely agree. Work on learning to maximize the potential of the tires that you already have. As Arris said, a stickier tire is only going to mask the mistakes that you're making and will only make the learning curve that much steeper. If the tires are howling at you, it doesn't mean you need better tires, it means you're over driving them. There were a lot of guys out this weekend who were asking far too much of the tires and could have been much quicker if they slowed things down, particularly at corner entry.

Worse tires means you get to explore beyond the limit stuff sooner and easier.

(And it's more fun to slide.)
