Williams Performance pads - did I get the wrong ones?

Gah! Fronts went in fine, but the rears are causing probs. It almost looks like I got pads for a 1.8L Miata with bigger brakes, rather than a 1.6L.

The "tangs" that slide over the brake caliper bracket didn't fit with the clips that "place" the pads in the right spot, so I removed them. I can get the outer pad in, but the tangs on the inner pad have less clearance than the stock pads, and they get hung up. The DIY in me says: file them. The safety geek in me says: it's fine to do stuff like that on other areas of the car, but NOT the brakes. These pads also come with a squealer, that the stock pads didn't have - there are clearance issues with this as well.

4 days until I go on a big trip - NOT a good time to have to deal with stuff like this. I'm tempted to just put the stockers back in in the rear, but I'm sure that'll really mess up my brake balance.

Anyone else install S2 pads on a 1.6L Miata? I know Eddie82 has them installed, but he's moved up to the larger rotors from the 1.8L Miata.

Cheers,

Jeff

Here's a pic of the rear pads, with an outline/overlay of the OEM pads on top of it. I'm sure I've either got the wrong pad, or Williams Performance will figure something out - going to give WTZ a shout. In the meantime, I'll just re-install my old rear pads - they don't have much work to do anyway.

Uhuh, it looks wrong to me! But I'm sure you'll find William will get your problem sorted out as easy as pie. He takes great pride in his operation.

Hi Jeff,

I think that WTZ might have given you the wrong set of pads. I would contact Peter and inform him of the mistake and he will make things right.

Please keep me in the loop and I am calling to William to view your post.

We want to minimize this type of activity.

Thanks Ken - didn't get a chance to call WTZ on Sat - too busy getting the car buttoned back up after a suspension and brake swap, and IC pipe reroute. I'll give them a shout on Monday. I threw the OEM pads back in the rear for now - should hopefully get me through my upcoming 5K KM trip.

Cheers!

Jeff

You definitely have the wrong pads. It looks like you got the 94+ Miata R pad, and need to swap for the 90-93 pad. We have them here in stock, so it is no problem.

Did you pick these pads up from us, or did you pick them up from Williams directly?

No big deal either way, as we have both here in stock.

Hey Pete: just to confirm - I picked them up at WTZ sometime last week. Thanks for the email, and response here. If I get time, I'll pop by and swap the rear pads over tomorrow. Might install them AT Deals Gap.

Thanks again for your help.

Cheers!

Jeff
