When you go too far

Started the winter build with the intention of bumping classes, but boy has it got out of hand.. Race Cars and disposable income a dangerous combination

Looks like I will end up in SGT3 with my little ole Civic

Weight Reduction, Spherical Bearings/Bushings, Drag Cartel Cams, new tune, new brakes, aero Splitter and Wing and a bunch of other improvements that are better mods for already taken PIP's

A 2 class bump really, I was a high GT2 rating and I will be a high SGT3 rating. I need to be 2 seconds quicker.

Would you guys pursue all the mods, or hold out and try to stay GT1??

Any suggestions??

From more of a philosophical point of view, some things of note:
- A faster car doesn't necessarily equate to more enjoyment; it just sets the stage to want a faster (or higher classed) car the next year. Haha. A car that CAN go faster doesn't necessarily equate to a better driver...
- With a higher classed car comes the pucker factor. I only see pucker factor coming into play at GP w.r.t. the tracks OTA runs. Lap times are one thing but flying through 2/4 at GP (for example) may get you to the point of "do I really need to be going this fast"? No doubt with that taking over your head, you likely will not be competitive.
- Running costs increase the more you move up the classes. Wider tires, more frequent fluid changes (?) and the greater chance of repair costs etc.
- Lastly. Will there be sufficient competitors in the class you want to compete in? On this one, I thought I was doing well in SGT2 towards the end of the season only to realize I was the only one in my class!

That being said, I'll be moving up to SGT1 with more aero and more power as the deciding PIP factors. So take what I said with a box of salt.

There is no prize money to be won ......... only bragging rights .

Do whatever the heck you feel like and have FUN with your car. I never won my class (...unless I was the lone competitor?! ) but I had fun trying .

I may come out for an event or two in (pretty sure?) SGT1 this year. If nothing else, certainly the CTMP weekend in July .

Thanks for the input, have decided to forgo the Aero this year which will keep me 79.9 GT1

Figure out where you get your joy from, and go with that. Is it the raw speed? Is it the ragged edge in corners? Is it winning a class? Is it just improving your driving?

Fewer things break and wear out at lower HP and G-forces than at high HP and G's. I can assure you of that consequence. And as you know from Shannonville, going home when something that shouldn't break actually does, really sucks.

Big jumps in performance can be harder to adjust to. A mid-step at GT1 is a wise idea. It's a good strategy to get your mechanical changes sorted and optimised before you add aero balance issues. Some things affect you in unexpected ways. e.g.: Caging my car (and tying in the A pillars and front strut towers) tightened up the front end so much it caused massive understeer issues compared to the year before. We made aero changes at the same time, so it took extra time to figure out the root cause of the new problem.

I am of the mindset where I try to limit my mods to nothing and see what I can eke out from my skillset. I always question myself if I am truly 'at the limit' and everytime I've done so, I've managed to eke out a new personal best.

So my $0.10 (adjusted for inflation)?

Stay a little in the lower class longer and see what you get out of the new stuff you've put in. You may or may not like the new mods. Sometimes stuff sounds great on paper but hard to actually pull off or apply.

Like many posts above, just mod your car so that you like the way it drives and its speed potential. Sure, have a mind for that class you end up in if winning your class is your goal. That what's great about OTA - run what you brung.
