Red Lights....

We're all good responsible drivers.... but is good to know when and where you're being watched...

The following is the list of the intersections in Toronto where you'll currently find one of the rotating cameras.
The cameras are designed to catch anyone who runs a red light, putting others at risk. A picture of the car and its plate is examined, and if found to be in violation of the law, a motorist receives a ticket in the mail for $190 so drive safely and leave early if you need to get some where so you don't have to rush.

Didn't the occurence of rear-enders increase due to the addition of cameras?

I say shorten the yellows down to 1/3 what they are and we'll see how many people run them...

Better yet, make the delay random, between 0 and 2 sec! Sure, we'll get a few crashes for a while, but people will learn, and soon won't run them at all!

It's the delay after the red on the green in the other direction that gets people thinking they have time to go.
Kingston has the traffic lights chance at the same time.
As soon as the yellow becomes red, the red for the other direction becomes green.
I don't like the 2 second delay, but I don't run reds anyway.

TFB!!

they should be at every intersection

Running reds has nothing to do with anything but people being in a rush.

its pathetic.. i've seen people waiting to make a left in an intersection and dying to make the turn.. but because of these red light runners, end up going when the other direction is GREEN

they end up pissing off the other drivers because they're stuck waiting for the redlight runners to clear.

Everytime I'm at an intersection and the light is turning yellow,
i gas the car to make it look like i'm going to make the left.

the hood lifts, and you should see the approaching drivers face
in most cases.. they end up braking, and stopping for the yellow

it works!!

driving in toronto traffic is brutal, you never know how bad it is..
untill you move a way for a while and come back.

(don't miss it at all)

i believe that's only for the smaller streets.

didn't see that happening on princess street in the downtown area.

but on the streets near residential areas, that's exactly what happens.

Yeah, and considering their no-rights-on-reds and overuse of single-direction greens, I'd say it's the one thing they've done right out there.

I always shake my head when I come to a stop as a light goes red and somebody who was 3 car lengths behind me goes flying through. The more cameras the better.

If you get a red-light ticket, you have to install a set of Williams pads... THAT makes sense!

That would help their cars, but what about their brains?

I got pretty angry at my dad once for running a red and his answer was that he didn't think the van could stop in time...

I demonstrated otherwise...

If people know they have good brakes, I hope they'd use them... I know I do

No everybody has good brakes. There are a lot of people with really crappy arsed cars out there. When I do a stoppie in my Jetta (a new 2004.5 Jetta GLI with OEM 12.3" front brakes, vented 11" rears) - I always, ALWAYS check my rear view mirror before throwing out the anchor. In the old Type-R (RIP) and Hawk HP+ pads, I was rudely surprised a couple of times when people took to the shoulder to not rear end me when I stopped in what I considered a safe distance and with appropriate distance between me and the car behind me - NOT. Never trust ANYBODY else's brakes/tires. They probably weren't paying attention, but still - after that, always check the mirrors and watch exactly those other morons are up to.
