Drag racing update Re: My Eagle Talon - originally prepped for solo competition.

While Marco drove the Actionfront purple talon to a 10.618 in New Jersey a few weeks ago - the run was not in Canada - so we headed off to St. Thomas on Sunday to try and duplicate the feat on home soil.

My first pass of the day was 10.880 @ 144.63 mph.
Then an 11.373 @ 143.33 (bad launch) and I then backed up my earlier time with a 10.807 @ 146.06 mph.

Marco then did a couple of passes head to head against Jeffrey's Chan's RX7.

He ran a 10.690 and finished with a 10.348 @ 143.25 mph.

Nine's are getting closer.

That puts us in 6th place on the fastest ever import in Canada list. (but 6th place with a bullet!)

NOTE TO ADAM - All this work was still not enough to fight off the evil hordes. The dark empire (Honda) was well represented by a Civic that ran 9.93 @ 149 mph to win the event!

THEY WILL BE DEFEATED ...NICK THEY WILL!!!!! all hondas will be crushed in utter defeat

beat them down, grind them up, and spit them out...burn them and blow them up..shread them and tear them.....i have one word for you NOS..and more of it..lots more...and when you think you have enough..go 2 jet sizes up from that...you should be running a 300shot min..progressive computer controlled...that will keep those pesky hondas at bay...

go get em....

still 10 sec runs are pretty impressive from a 2.0l motor.....

what size turbo are you guys running? a straight t4?

what kind of nos system are you using? i would think a progressive system would work the best...have you also tried using the nitrous as a coolent for the intercooler as well? or running a ice chamber?

or ditching the AWD and get a real drag racing rear end..to finally punish those wretched little tin boxes you are racing against

Turbo is currently a double ball bearing GT35R - but - we have a secret weapon - new custom turbo - rated to 850 HP. Will probably take another month or so to get it working.

Nitrous - actually Nitrous Express is sponsoring the car and giving us all the equipment. This weekend we tried out the "Maximizer" progressive control unit - wow!

Can you say "Honda's for breakfast!"

cool... i am suprized you are not using a progressive system already.... don't forget about using the nitrous as a chiller for the intercooler...you have a 10lb bottle..might as well use it up in 1 run

My motor is identical to Agostino's Corvette right down to the camshaft profile. With a nitrous hit, it ran 9.2@157 and when they hit it with a higher shot, it blew the transmission to shreds but was obviously on its way to a 8 second pass.

You just need a big V8, that's all.

(throw a little gas on the fire... heh)

ha ha ha...v8's are not needed... power and technology are needed

nick that turbo is a freaking monster for a 2.0l motor..i looked at one of those its over 3k cdn...a bit out of my budget..but very nice...it must flow like crap at low rpm...and have alot of compressor surge? christ mine surges on my 2.4l at low rpm 3k below...though you are running some silly boost levels

i think the only way you are going to beat the civics is with nitrous..and a real drag rear end...more boost is going to lead to spool up issues and flow issues..whereas nitrous won't..plus you can use it to spool up that monster...

what does marco think? more nos or bigger turbo...

have you tubbed it out yet for a drag rear yet?

now back to v8's

Yeah, but the point of this - is to go where no man has gone before! (apologies to Capt'n Kirk)

If I just want to go fast - I can ride in a jet plane.

The Canadian record is 9.6 - The WORLD RECORD for a 4 cylinder - uni-body car is 8.6 seconds (sorry Adam - another Honda). While that's still some ways away - it's well worth the audacity of an attempt! Our mph indicates the ability to run somewhere in the low nines.

4 cylinders rule!

Guys, what are you talking about 10 second, 9 seconds, 8 seconds? Your run is over so fast you don't even get a chance to enjoy it.

Me?

I put the front tires into the water behind the start and light them up a bit to warm up the tires. Then I do a nice 3 point turn to get the car heading in the right direction and pull up to the Christmas tree. I give her and drop the clutch on green and go for a full 15 second run. High 15 seconds mind you.

At least I'm out there enjoying the long run. You guys are over and done with before you know it. It's too fast I tell you.

(Yes, I'm bored and feel like slacking off today)

Ah, I just wanna go fast. Technology not required.

I got it, Nick... think "Turbine Engine". With, say, 3,500hp and 7,000lb/ft of torque, and it's high-tech, too! Hey, and no rebuilds required, they have 120,000 hour MTBF ratings.

Whoa. Assuming a 9 second run that's about 48 million runs down the quarter mile before the turbine needs service. Nice.

And here I was thinking that I should run less boost in my FFR to lose 100 hp or so and make it more driveable in Solo 1. You guys are certifiable!

I love it. Do you get a volume discount on clutches?

John

v8's ...lets talk about them... big, noisy, and heavy....

4cyl..small, compact....

the name of the game is "who ever can move more air through the engine wins"

simple as that..move more air..burn more fuel..go faster....

so if you have 3 equally powered cars...one lets say a z06 corvette maybe a flaming chicken (firebird)or old ratty 240sx with silly wing on the back..the one that weighs the least and handles the best is gonna win.....

so far in reality
z06=385bhp weight 3100lbs=8.05 power to weight
ratty 240sx=246bhp weight 2700lbs=10.97

now if we equal these all out
either the corvettes have to lose power(not gonna happen) and go to 282bhp....or the ratty 240sx has to gain power and go to 335bhp or 299rwhp..which is very possible to do

go from 246bhp at 9psi
gaining around 15-20hp per psi of boost..that means approx 6psi of boost are needed...or 15psi (about what a stock talon or WRX runs)

and the power levels will now be equal...who is gonna win...i would place money on the lighter car

ask nick why the civics are winning in drag racing.... cause they are light...

he he he he he
