Please lend your support to a friend we've all known for many years.
While it is fair to say that our mutual friend has experienced many trying times in days gone by, it is arguable that the present time poses the greatest threat to their well-being. We should all take the extra time to do what little we can in order to help our friend through these trying times. The following are some ways we can help our dear friend. When we use the plural form of nouns, we should add an "s" only, and not include an apostrophe. For example, the plural of Mustang is Mustangs, not Mustang's. When comparing two things, we hurt our dear friend when we incorrectly use the word "then" instead of the proper conjunction, "than." If this issue is more serious than we realize, then perhaps we should address it urgently. Let's [let us] all be prudent with our usage of apostrophes, so that each apostrophe lets [allows] its [possessive pronoun] work be done as our friend intended. It's [it is] imperative that we try. Please help our dear friend, English to survive.

"Suddenly, it frightened me," Ayrton said, "because I realised I was well beyond my conscious understanding. I drove back slowly to the pits and did not go out anymore that day." |

Re: Please lend your support to a dying friend.
The apostrophe use is bothering me too. This seems to have started in the last couple of years. I see Photo's a lot. I have no idea why people have started doing this.

Somebody pinch me.
I think I just read something about an engineer touting the use of proper, gramatical English while communicating. That's an oxymoron, right? (Ducks and runs for cover like a typical Arts weenie.) |

Re: Please lend your support to a dying friend.
Us engineers are always at the cutting edge of English grammar (especially us native english ones). It just takes the rest of the world some time to catch up.
Right Greg??

Re: Please lend your support to a dying friend.
I am just an uneducated immigrant who has missed many of the english classes back in the "old country". Yet, I am wondering where in hell those people who have thousands of posts on various forums on the net learned their english? Could not have been in 12 or 13 years of highschool.
I am not trying to tell anyone how to propperly write in their native language but just maybe I missed something in my class where I learned my english as a second language. Somebody please help me here on just a couple of items that always pop up. At least 9 out of 10 people write 'there(s)' when it should be 'their(s) when they are referring to people .. or 'theres' when it should read 'they are'. Did I learn (or remember) the wrong stuff from waaaaaayyyyyyy back in school or have some expressions maybe changed? I have a particular issue when someone writes ' must of done this', or ' should of thought of that', or 'could of won ....'. This should read 'must have', should have, could have ... etc, right? I think the percentage of people using these wrong(?) expressions on the net is more like 95%. I read this again and again and I am really wondering whether I am totally wrong Glad to see there is someone who cares about this dying friend .... not that I know him personally. Klaus
