90 CRX winter beater - sample ICE Racing?

Hey,

I have a 90 CRX DX winter beater that I've solo1 a season back. Mechanically it's mint but the body - not so much. It's straight and there's no rust holes or anything, it's just seen better days. Anyway, I still use it as a winter beater. I have winter tires for it - Nokian HAKKA1s. Does anyone drive their ice racer to compete? Thought it might be fun to give ice racing a try, but don't have a tow vehicle or any interested buying a dedicated Ice Racer. Not knowing much about the sport, I'm not sure if you can actually drive the car to and from events.

Miles, that would be a bit difficult but not out of the ordinary. No one in this millenium has done so but it has been done in past history. The problem here is that you have to remove the lights and trim. You would have to make your headlights removeable. Would be tricky putting them back in at the end of the day and aligning them. Also the tails have to be removed and an other light put on top of the car or in the back window for running and brake light.

My suggestion is find out if you have someone close by that can tow your car up there, if so prep it at home and have them tow it to Minden. You can leave the car there the entire season.

What part of the world do you live in?

Dave. not true. My Uncle drives his 323 GTX to and from the track, unless it is blown up.

same with Kiyo's Legacy.

Re: 90 CRX winter beater - sample ICE Racing?

hmm. Interesting.

I live downtown TO but store the car in Mississauga. I was actually hoping to continue to use the car as a winter beater this winter but take it out to an ice race or 2 for shits and giggles. I've taken taillights off in the past easily by replacing the factory bolts with butterfly bolts but you're right, the headlights are a different issue. Think I might come out and watch a few this winter and use the car next year as an ice racer. Thanks for the input.

If you come out, bring a helmet, we allow passengers. No sense just standing on the bank when you can be ballest... err, a passenger.

If you want a totally hair raising ride, one I'm sure you'll remember for a life time, go out with Kiyo Tabuchi......That car is one of the craziests things I've ever seen......go left, no!, go right, No!, go right ahhh errr I mean left, now go right again...it's exhausting just watching him drive it...T.

Which means they mostly don't drive them, cause they mostly blow up!

Hey Miles, if you're heading up one weekend to be a spectator let me know, I'd love to watch some ice racing, it seems like something I'm going to want to do in a couple years when I can afford it.
