Minden -- Street Studs 2006

I was just talking to Jeff at Tirecraft, and he said that there have been a few more folks purchased tires for the street stud class -- which cars are you running?

is anyone on the fence, still trying to decide whether to run Street Stud vs. Rubber?

Brian/Eric/Frank: What are the plans for your fleet of Hondas this year?

Chris: I heard that you've been banned from running in the street stud class... What happened?

Dave: Know of any folks who haven't picked up their tires yet?

I didn't know that class still exists. LOL.
Actually I haven't heard a thing from anyone but I am glad someone bought a tire or two. Is it the same people as last year plus Chris's friend? Dunno, but I hope we have more than 7 cars or we will have to rethink the class. All those promises last season, it wasn't only Chris and we ended up with 7, 5 ran most weekends. I am a little more cautious this season.

Re: Minden -- Street Studs 2006

looking through the regulations, the class wasnt clearly promoted as clearly as studs or rubber..

a few guys dropped off their tires for repairs, and a few more purchased new tires.

But the rules did change. No more cage or roll bar. RTI rulles apply. Most of the drivers knew. No more limit on tires either.

So here is my question, how do we promote the SSC? All answers will be accepted, some I may laugh at but I will read all replies. LOL.

Re: Minden -- Street Studs 2006

Dave.....even though i might be banned

i think the rollcages and belts scared off alot of people last year.

now that is gone i think it might have made a few people think.

I think people need to know how CHEAP the tires are. To buy a rubber to ice tire, tractionize it, get tubes, hot knife.....you are talking alot more than a SS tire (assuming people are not paying "cost" on tires)

All it will take is numbers, and some close racing. If people see close racing, at affordable costs...they will run the class. (remember "if you build it, they will come")

Maybe a set of "loaner" tires....mount a set of 13's up on some civic rims...offer them to FWD guys to try for a practice, day, weekend...maybe a rental fee.

i think if people try it...they will run.

Personally...while big classes are great....the super large FWD classes might seem intimidating to some....as you really are racing against some FAST guys. Class 3...to run top 5..you need to be seriously hauling ass, because there are some really seasoned veterans that are there.

Re: Minden -- Street Studs 2006

the Brian/Eric/Frank (NielsenRacing home of the CIVIC) is just going to be running rubber again this year because of the unknown !!!!

Wanted to run studs but not enought money to buy them, want to run street studs but not if there is only going to be 5-10 cars. So going to stick with good old rubber to ice, with 20+ cars and a whole lot of good fun racing.

see ya

And you really need to haul ass if youre going to run in class 2, cause the smaller wheelbase FWD cars are approaching lightspeed!

At least according to the handicap they had to overcome in the Action Front Shootout!

What do the street stud tires cost? Do you run tubes in them? What air pressure?

They are $95 a tire. No tubes. Normal pressures. I just talked with Jeff Wenzel.

Jeff also advises that the W401's are officially discontinued but he has some in stock . He also has W403. If you want W404's they cost a bit more but are studable and are just like the W401's. Give him a call at 905.760.1130.

Talking of "rethinking the class" is not your usual optimisic self Crusher. Before the seaon even begins :-(
Not very encouraging to those who have sunk $600 into wheels and tires>

Let's see who shows up. Jeff has sold a couple of sets which means an MR2 or 3.

Re: Minden -- Street Studs 2006

Stephen. Yes you run tubes in them. You will need to adjust pressures as the track changes. As for base pressures it depends on many things, the weight of your car, Fwd or Rwd, driving style etc ...

Bill, Don't worry, I think you will have a class this season with the Chevette, (he got pretty quick at the end of the season with a little R&D), Toms new 240SX and I have a feeling there may be a Celica or two in the mix. As for your concerns about "rethinking the class", I don't think the SS classes were taken seriously at all last season, not just from the powers that be but from some of the organizing clubs that did'nt even have the class on thier schedule. I still don't think there is a CASC trophy for this class unless it was/is sitting at the Petrolia Rd office, I was promised that it would be UPS'd to me in the spring but hav'nt seen it yet.

Personally after winning this class last season I still can't bring my self to decide what to run this year, I can't justify spending another $600 on tires, when my brother in class 2 won outright on 7 year old rubber!! I think the stud size in these tires is too big/long, and after loosing only three studs all season long, on the last weekend I ruined my best pair when we got down to dirt in the sweeper. The stud pockets have ripped and a replacement will not stay in.

Tony, I'm Seriously thinking about going back to Lightspeed
