Events 3&4 SMP June 22/23 2013

Events three and four of the 2013 Ontario Time Attack schedule took place Saturday and Sunday, June 22nd and 23rd at Shannonville Motorsport Park.  The weather was a bit of a challenge on Saturday.  The track was dry for part of the day and then the rains came.  Some groups were able to get timed runs in the dry but others had to compete in the wet.  Such is racing I guess.  Sunday, the weather cooperated and the track was dry all day.  We ran the Pro Track on Saturday and the Long Track on Sunday.  There was a good turn-out, with several novice drivers returning for more time attack competition.  Once again, there was a lot of excellent driving.  There are some great rivalries this year and very close competition indeed.  There were ten participants in GT3 both days.  GT1 and T1 classes were also well represented.

The following are some of the results and closely contested classes:  Top three drivers in the series overall to date are Chris Paczynski, SGT2, 2002 Corvette Z06, Corey Whiteman, GT2, 1996 BMW 328i and Mohamed Hussain, GT4, 1989 Honda CRX.  Top novice drivers to date are Steve Bortolotti, GT3, 2005 Mazda RX8, Jeremy Brutzki, T1, 2001 Honda Prelude and Fred Bizer, GT3, 2004 Nissan 350Z.  Some of the other closely contested classes are GT3, with John Coey, 2010 MazdaSpeed 3, Andrew Van De Peer, 1992 Honda Civic and Kelly Ball, 2010 Mustang GT in the top three places, while in T1 Barry Greenaway, 1997 Mazda Miata, Pierre Lefebvre, 1991 Honda CRX and Rob Hall, 1999 Mazda Miata hold the top three positions.  Most of these contests are separated by mere 10ths of a second or less, so nothing has been decided just yet as to the final outcome of the season.  Drivers will have to remain very focused.  It should make for some great competition in the remaining three events!  Congratulations to all and especially the class winners.

Thanks to the HADA Motor Sport Club for hosting the first two events.  John and Chris Paczynski, the organizers of the events, did a great job.  And, as always, thanks to the many volunteers and the sponsors.

The next two events will be held July 13th and 14th at Grand Bend Raceway, situated just outside the Town of Grand Bend, on the shores of Lake Huron; a great area to visit.  These two events will be hosted by the Toronto Autosport Club.  There should be some great competition and lots of fun.  Rob McAuley and Carsten Gieschen are doing the legwork to get things ready and I’ll be helping out at the track.  See you there!
