Events 5&6 GBR July 13/14 2013

Events five and six of the 2013 Ontario Time Attack schedule took place Saturday and Sunday, July 13th and 14th at Grand Bend Raceway.  The weather was hot and sunny and the track was dry for both events.  We ran the Technical Track clockwise on Saturday and counter-clockwise on Sunday.  Once again we had a good turn-out and the events were a great success.  The many rivalries continue and new ones started!  The competition remains close.  Many class winners won’t be determined until the last event is completed – very exciting.  There were twelve participants in GT3 on Saturday and eleven on Sunday.  GT3 remains the most populated class.

The following are some of the results and closely contested classes:  The top three drivers in the series overall to date have changed positions slightly with Corey Whiteman, GT2, 1996 BMW 328i in the lead, Chris Paczynski, SGT2, 2002 Corvette Z06 second and Mohamed Hussain, GT4, 1989 Honda CRX third.

Top novice drivers to date remain Steve Bortolotti, GT3, 2005 Mazda RX8, Jeremy Brutzki, T1, 2001 Honda Prelude and Fred Bizer, GT3, 2004 Nissan 350Z.

Other closely contested classes are GT3, with John Coey, 2010 MazdaSpeed 3 still in first place, Andrew Van De Peer, 1992 Honda Civic in in second and Steve Bortolotti, 2005 Mazda RX8 moving into third.  In T1 Barry Greenaway, 1997 Mazda Miata remains in first place.  In SGT1 it is Sal Vilardo in his classic 1988 Ford Mustang in first place, being chased by Carsten Gieschen in his 2003 BMW M3.

There are too many close contests to mention so be sure to check out all the results at the CASC website under Time Attack.  Congratulations to all.

Thanks to the Toronto Autosport Club for hosting the events.  Rob McAuley organized on Saturday with the help of Carsten Gieshen, and I had my first experience as an organizer on Sunday.  I couldn’t have done it without the assistance of so many people.  Thanks to all of you.  A great big thanks as well to Rob Giddings who was instrumental in supplying the food for the excellent BBQ on Saturday.  Grand Bend is a great venue with lots to see and do.  Look forward to returning.

The next event will be hosted by SPDA on August 18th at the Grand Prix Track at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park (my favourite).  There is a school for novice drivers the previous day, so be sure and attend that if you haven’t competed at this track before.  It’s well worth it.
