OTA Event #3

time attack director / Tag: Time Attack

Event #3 of the Mobil1 Ontario Time Attack Championship Series presented by TOYO Tires took place on Saturday, June 9th at Shannonville MotorSports Park using the Pro Track configuration.  The event was hosted by HADA and included the traditional Saturday night BBQ sponsored by M&M Meats.  While Toronto, and especially Hamilton, were deluged by rain for the entire day, SMP received a sprinkling of rain in the early aternoon.  The net result was one wet run for each session and two predominantly dry runs for each session.

The competition as evidenced in the first two events is fast and furious and highly competitive as we carry on into round three of the series.  Many classes are very tight and will get even more so as the series advances.

In Super Grand Touring 3, Lloyd Martin (SPDA) in his 03 Z06 Corvette is .735 points ahead of James Houghton (SPDA) in his 98 Acura Integra.  In Grand Touring 2, Rob McCarty (SPDA) in his 03 Nissan 350Z leads Perry Rautanen (OMSC) in his 05 Ford Mustang by a scant .370 points.  In Grand Touring 3, Andrew Van de Peer (HADA) in his 92 Honda Civic enjoys a marginal .468 lead over John Coey (SPDA) in his 010 MazdaSpeed 3.

Top Novices for the event were Erik Dalla Riva (SPDA) in his 98 Honda Civic and John Coey (SPDA) in his 010 MazdaSpeed 3.  In the overall Novice Championship, Aaron Thompson (SPDA) in his 012 MazdaSpeed 3 has a somewhat comfortable 1.835 points lead over Ralph Scholtes (OMSC) in his 93 Mazda MX3.

In the overall Championship Series Standings, Ujjwal Verma (SPDA) in his 03 Ford Mustang GT has 300 points.  Close behind in second place is Lloyd Martin (SPDA) in his 03 Z06 Corvette with 297.903 points.  Third place is now occupied by James Houghton (SPDA) in his 98 Acura Integra with 297.271 points.

As an interesting sideline, Chris Paczynski in his 02 Z06 Corvette won in Super Grand Touring 2 and was the Fastest Competitor of the event.  Chris did not compete last year as he took a year off to tour the world so it was good to see him back.  His results indicate that it was like he never left.  Now the question in the paddock is, "Will he compete in the remaining events?"  As a past multiple time Champion the rest of the year just got even more interesting!
