2023 CASC-OR Annual Ice Race Division Report

This year’s run down:

  • Six race weekends completed.
  • Twelve race days completed.
    • Two rain dates needed.
    • Last event March 11 & twelve
  • Average Entries
    • Saturday – 63 vs. seventy-three
    • Sunday – 70 vs. 47 in 2022
    • Previous years (Pre Covid) averages
      • Saturday – 82
      • Sunday – 73
  • Driver’s meeting held by Tom Prentice to express concerns over continued track stability and continuity.
    • Warmer weather is making it more difficult to build and maintain the track.
    • Use of non D.O.T. studded tires contributing to more rapid deterioration of the track and increased difficulty in maintaining the track
  • Because of season and increased costs (track building increased by 40%) clubs operated at a lose this season

Where we can improve

  • Sponsorship and media coverage
  • Increased participation – encouraging new competitors to join.

Going Forward in 2024

  • Use of a series specified D.O.T. studded tire.
    • Nokian Tyres Hakkapeliitta 10
  • Increased focus on marketing
  • New corner lights
